In ‘Of Mice and Men,’ anger and violence is of common recurrence. Anger, as shown by many characters, is always around because of fear, jealousy and anxiety. Lennie †¨is always the source of this anger, whether it be toward him, because †¨of him, or from him. One of the first characters to portray anger in John Steinbeck’s Novel is George, Lennies companion. Straight away in the Novel, anger is shown towards †¨Lennie, Georges anger is because Lennie wants something they do not have, and because it is Lennie who is ‘pleading,’ George is Expected to have it. This is only due to Lennies innocence. George tells him, Well we aint got no ketchup! his anger is clearly †¨out of frustration, as he goes on to talk about how he could do Whatever the†¦show more content†¦Another part of the Novel, where both anger and violence is shown is in Curley. Curley once was a welterweight boxing champion, but now he is older and his dream has ended, he has become the son of ‘the boss’ at the ranch. Both of these elements leave Curley always getting annoyed with most ranch workers and trying to show off to them but all this gets him is people who hate him. yes, it makes him feel in-charge and the boss, which he is not but his anger and hatred towards others leaves him socially out on his own with no-one to talk to, this then aggravating him further making him much more violent. Also, in the Novel, Curley gets intimidated by much bigger men, so Curley tries to turn that around and make the much bigger man (in this case Lennie) feel unwelcome but all this does is that Curley ends up being even more socially out on his own which then makes him want to show who is ‘the boss’ (or in this case the bosses son) and starts getting aggressive, then starting a fight with Lennie. Curley starts this fight with Lennie because Curley wants himself to still believe he has the power to be a welterweight champion again fighting against much bigger men and when Curley fights Lennie, he is taught a lesson by Lennie and knows that he needs to calm his life down and make some friends. On April 16th I took a visit to the Central Michigan Community Mental Health Care Facility of Mt Pleasant Michigan. They are a facility tasked with the mission â€Å"To promote community Inclusion and optimal recovery through provision of comprehensive and quality integrated services to individuals with a mental illness, developmental disability, and/or substance abuse disorder.† (about-us/mission, 2015) The facility it’s self has a total of 400 employees that covers Mental Health needs to all of the 6 Mid-Michigan Counties, Gladwin, Clare, Isabella, Osceola, Mecosta, and Midland. In the last fiscal year the serviced nearly 10,000 individuals. I went to this facility to meet with Brian McNeil, The Chief Information Officer of the facility, who has been working at this facility for over 20 years. Brian graduated in 1987 with a degree in Applied Mathematics with a focus in computer science. He started out managing the networks at Dow Chemical before getting hired in at Community Mental Health in 1991. When he first started at Community Mental Health he was hired into to manage their information systems. Which mainly consisted of report writing, programming, data analysis and other things of that nature. One thing that many find odd about the kind of work brain does with the health record is that he has absolutely no AHIMA accreditations or certificates what so ever. Social Work Essay For my Social Work Essay interview, I interviewed Professor Lampen. She is a social work professor here at Cornerstone. She is no longer in the profession right now. Before she came to cornerstone to teach she worked as a social worker for about sixteen years. Professor Lampen started out her schooling by getting her bachelors degree in Psychology. Then, she went on with her schooling and became a Registered Nurse. She decided that she wanted something different so she went back to school and got her Masters in Social Work at Western Michigan University. For her first job she worked at a hospice. There she made home visits to patients. She worked there for about four years and then went on to work at Mary Free Bed Hospital and Rehabilitation Center. At Mary Free Bed she worked mostly with spinal cord and brain injury patients. She said with her back round in nursing that it helped her in the unit. With her medical back round she was able to understand the patients more and help them better with their problems. She worked there for twelve years and now here she is at Cornerstone teaching. My next question for if she had any advice for someone entering the field of Social Work. She told me to make sure that the field fits you. There are so many different fields in Social Work. Whatever one you choose you have to make sure it fits you and youll enjoy working there. She also said that you really have to care about your work. If you dont love your work and care about it then you wont be able to put your whole heart into it. I also asked her about some of her likes and dislikes about the profession. One of her likes is that she knows that what she does matters. As a social worker she makes great impacts on peoples lives. She loves being able to help people and the interaction with people. One of her dislikes is that its not a very prestigious occupation and that social workers dont get enough respect. One of the discouraging things she said about social work is the resources are very limited. Some of the things that help her with the stress of the occupation are friends. She always makes sure she has something fun to do on the weekends with her family or friends. She also makes sure that every night she has something relaxing to do whether its watching a particular TV show or spending quality time with her family. My next question I asked her was if she kept her moral and spiritual issues separate form her work. Both of the places she worked were not Christian organizations. She said that she thinks social work is important to her because of her spiritual values. She doesnt try to keep her values from her work but she doesnt express them as much as she would usually. My last question for Professor Lampen was, what were the characteristics she thinks a social worker should have. She said that a social worker should have a high energy level and be able to focus on the positive side of things instead of the negative. She also said that it was important to really want to be able to help the needy. If you dont have the passion to help people then you wont be able to do your best for people. I thought that Professor Lampen was very interesting to talk to. My talking to her it makes me even more excited to get out there and help people. I thin I have finally figured out that this is the field of work that God has called me too.
